Alex Kerfoot Reveals Reason behind Surprising Free Agency Decision
The Arizona Coyotes have been one of the NHL's worst teams in recent memory, but according to one of their off-season pickups, things could be changing in a big way.
A surprise move
In amongst so many blockbuster moves made this summer, one that goes overlooked is the Arizona Coyotes picking up veteran forward Alex Kerfoot, which was a surprising move for the veteran.
After four years in Toronto, Kerfoot made the free agency move, and has now given a detailed reason as to why it was best for him.
I just came away really impressed with where they're headed, what their mindset is at right now, and I think with what they're doing and where they envision the team going, it was a group that I wanted to be a part of.
Having played against them the last few years, they're a tough team to play against, they're competitive, they're fast, and I just felt like I could fit in with where I'm at.
I was looking for a place where I thought that the fit was really good, and of the teams that I was talking to, I felt most comfortable with them. I felt like the fit was a big thing for me, and for the group, and everything else is an added bonus.
It just feels like they're in a different spot now. It feels like they're trying to take the next step. Being part of that change and helping grow the culture is fun to be a part of. Things are trending really well for this group, and I'm happy to be part of it.

A team on the rise?
With Clayton Keller leading the way and several young prospects coming through, it's hard to argue with Kerfoot here, and if they can get their arena situation sorted, this could be a destination that players want to come too in the next few years.
As for Kerfoot, he scored a solid 32 points a season ago, and will now slide into a key third line role for Arizona, and with things looking up for the future, this could be a fun team to watch in 2023-24.
