Anthony Stolarz reveals first amazing mask as goaltender of the Toronto Maple Leafs
The Toronto Maple Leafs inked Anthony Stolarz this summer, and ahead of the regular season, he's showing off an amazing new mask.
After moving on from long-time goaltender Ilya Samsonov, the Toronto Maple Leafs officially handed the reigns as starter over to Joseph Woll this off-season. In doing so, they inked Anthony Stolarz to pair him in net, and now, ahead of the regular season, the veteran net minder has unveiled an incredible new mask.
The new mask was unveiled during the Maple Leafs 2-1 loss to the Ottawa Senators in pre-season, and after an impressive campaign as the Panthers won the Stanley Cup a year ago, it's safe to say that Maple Leafs fans will become huge supporters of Stolarz over the coming months.
In that debut, Stolarz stopped 15 of the 16 shots he saw, and while the No. 1 role remains with Joseph Woll, if the veteran can continue his play of a year ago where he tallied a .925 save percentage and a 2.03 GAA through 27 games, it's going to be a good pairing for Toronto. Over the last three years, Stolarz has played in 28, 19 and 27 games, showing that he can be impressive in short bursts, but if Woll's injury history comes back around again, question marks will remain over Stolarz's ability as a long-term starter.
For the sake of Maple Leafs fans, the hope is that they won't need to worry about questions like that during the season, so for now, with the regular season still weeks away, we will simply marvel at yet another incredible mask that shows how much care some goaltenders put into their look on the ice.
