Two years ago, Colorado Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog led his team to their third Stanley Cup in franchise history, but since that point, things haven't gone well for the star forward. Since that point, he's missed every single game the Avalanche have played due to injury, and with others catching up to him. it's not looking good for his future.
Late in the season, there were rumours he could return for the Stanley Cup Playoffs, but that ultimately didn't happen, and now he may be stepping away from the NHL very soon.
According to an Avalanche reporter, Landeskog alongside General Manager Chris McFarland will meet the media on Thursday, and while nothing has been confirmed, it appears to be linked to his playing future. Given everything No. 92 has given to this organization, if he is indeed announcing his retirement, he'll go down as an all-time great Colorado Avalanche player, but there's always a chance this is about something else entirely.
We will bring updates when Landeskog officially speaks to the media, but for now, Avalanche fans need to brace for the possibility of bidding farewell to a franchise great.
