New York Rangers' captain, Jacob Trouba, got slapped with a hefty $5,000 fine for delivering a high elbow to the head of Florida Panthers ' forward Evan Rodrigues late in Sunday's second period.
Initially, it was called a major penalty, but after a review, it got downgraded to a minor.
NY Rangers' Jacob Trouba has been fined $5,000, the maximum allowable under the CBA, for elbowing Florida's Evan Rodrigues.
A major penalty, at the discretion of the Referee, shall be imposed on any player who uses his elbow to illegally check an opponent. A major penalty must be imposed under this rule for an infraction resulting in an injury to the face or head of an opponent.
Trouba's no stranger to trouble, having faced two suspensions and two fines in his career already. The Rangers scored a shorthanded goal anyways and then later won 5-4 in overtime for a 2-1 series lead in the Eastern Conference final.
