History was made this off-season when the Seattle Kraken hired Jessica Campbell as an assistant coach, the first female coach ever in the NHL.
The Kraken actually hired Campbell back in 2022 to work with their AHL affiliate team the Coachella Valley Firebirds, making her the first woman at the time in the AHL. Kraken forward Brandon Tanev couldn't contain his excitement when reporters caught up with him at Zach Hyman's Golf Celebrity Classic.
"Yeah, that's such an amazing moment for her. She's been in Coachella for the last two years with Dan (Bylsma) and been part of his staff. Obviously, she deserves to be, where she is, and that's amazing growth for the game. We are all super excited to have her behind our bench and listen and learn from her. Have her knowledge that she brings to the game to us."
Tanev just came off his third season with Seattle, scoring 7 goals and adding 9 assists in 66 games, all while providing a very nice physical presence for the team.
Ahead of the @ZachHymanGolf Celebrity Classic, Brandon Tanev spoke on what it means having @boof_campbell behind the bench for the @SeattleKraken this year 👏👏 #MoreThanAnAnthlete
The Kraken didn't make the playoffs last season, and are hoping that Jessica will be able to provide a fresh new beginning so that Tanev and company can reach new heights.
