The Toronto Maple Leafs are assembling the avengers. We learned DJ Smith, possibly joining Craig Berube's coaching squad as an assistant, as per Elliotte Friedman's latest scoop.

friedge mentioned DJ smith potentially joining berube's staff if he doesn't stay in LA this afternoon on sn590which uhhhwould definitely be a hire!
Friedman reported on Friday, hot on the heels of the Leafs' big announcement about Berube snagging the head coach spot. Yet Smith's potential return depends on whether he's willing to bid farewell to sunny Los Angeles, where he's been serving as an assistant coach for the Kings since getting the boot from the Ottawa Senators in December 2023.
Smith already has a history with the Leafs, having served as their assistant coach from 2015 to 2019 before venturing off to lead the Senators. He was also an assistant man for Canada's World Championship teams, snagging silver and gold medals in 2022 and 2023.
Yet Marc Savard's name also got thrown into the mix by Friedman. Word on the Barn Burner podcast, is that Savard might already be packing his bags for Toronto.
Toronto's current assistant coach, Dean Chynoweth, doesn't have a contract lined up for next season. Could this mean Smith comes in to fill his shoes if Chynoweth decides to take a different path?
Guy Boucher's still in the mix for next season in Toronto, but let's just hope he's not in charge of the power play.
