The Toronto Maple Leafs are continuing their search for a new head coach. Today a report from Elliotte Friedman has confirmed who the two favorites are to land the job.
Yesterday the Toronto Maple Leafs announced the firing of their now-former head coach Sheldon Keefe. The move came after a disappointing loss to the Boston Bruins in the Stanley Cup Playoffs and frustrating comments from Sheldon Keefe regarding the loss.
"When teams play the Leafs, they set up the game for the Leafs to beat themselves."
With the loss, Sheldon Keefe was relieved of his duties. Now less than 24 hours after the firing NHL insider Elliotte Friedman has revealed who the two likely candidates are to replace Sheldon Keefe.
elliotte friedman on the 32 thoughts podcast says the two leading contenders for the leafs head coaching job are craig berube and todd mclellan
Craig Berube has been the presumptive favorite even before the firing of Sheldon Keefe. Many fans wanted him to be the choice the moment the Maple Leafs were eliminated from the playoffs.
Sheldon Keefe definitely pumped the Leafs up with his pre-game speech. It's going to be refreshing when Craig Berube takes charge behind the bench
The newcomer to the conversation is Todd McLellan. Both are known for being more firey and hard-nosed coaches. Todd McLellan also helped the Detroit Red Wings powerplay thrive this past season.
I think Berube is going to get the job in Torontothe runner up per Friedman would be Todd McLellan. He ran the PP in Detroit, it was good, maybe they should throw some money at him to see if he'd consider it? Not sure on PK guys available. #Leafsforever
As the Maple Leafs' coaching search continues these two names will likely be considered the front runners. When an announcement is made regarding the new bench boss of the Toronto Maple Leafs we will provide all the latest news and updates.
