The Toronto Maple Leafs drafted a diamond in the rough with
Matthew Knies in 2021.
He's expected to start his NHL rookie season in a few weeks, and things are already looking good.
In the last two pre-season games, Knies played very well and showed that he deserves a spot in the Leafs lineup.

Knies Reveals What Kind of Player He Wants to Be
With everyone starting to realize Knies will become a top player in the NHL, a lot of people are trying to make projections about what's to come for the kid.
Knies, however, already has a good idea of the player he wants to become:
"I want to play everywhere. I want to be a contributor in all parts of the game. That's what hockey demands: a player that can play in all three zones & in every situation. I want to be that type of player."
The Leafs already have a few forwards who are responsible defensively, and they could use another one like Knies.
