Matt Murray and the word injured have gone hand-in-hand for many years now, and after successful surgery, he's ready to play again and win a lot of games.

When the Toronto Maple Leafs signed Matt Murray, they were hoping for big things from him, but sadly he didn't play a single game for the team last year. He recovered from bilateral hip surgery he underwent in October 2023, and played three games for the AHL Toronto Marlies, where he did help them win to clinch a playoff berth.
Matt Murray was just re-signed by the Leafs on July 1st to an $875,000 one-year deal. Murray was recently interviewed on the Slangin' the Bizkit podcast where he spoke of all the injuries he dealt with and how he recovered and what lies ahead for him.
Matt Murray revealed that the big problem for him over the years have been his hips. He had enough and agreed to get surgery done to fix the problem once and for all. Now that the surgery is done, he's hoping to have a huge comeback year.
"My hips haven't felt this good in a long time.

I've dealt with hip pain going back as far as Wilkes-Barre when I was like 20 or 21, It just got to a point where it was starting to mess up everything else. I was starting to get low back issues, starting to pull my groin a lot, and starting to have a lot of ankle problems.

It just got to a point where you try to get to the root of the problem, which in goaltending, for the most part, tends to be the hips. That's kind of what steers the ship, I would say. It's the most in-demand part of the body when playing in goal. I just figured it was time to get those fixed up and get a nice little reset." Murray said.
Getting back to his old Stanley Cup championship form is exactly what Matt Murray is hoping for. He is likely heading to the AHL Toronto Marlies to begin the season now that the Leafs have a solid duo in goal with Joseph Woll and Anthony Stolarz, but every team goes through a period where they need to rely on their 3rd string goalie. Murray will be there waiting for that call if it happens, and should he be needed for the Leafs, he's ready to be better than ever.
"This year is just about proving that I can stay healthy and that I got a nice little reset with the surgery, so proving that I can stay healthy and get the job done," Murray said.

Matt Murray has played in a total of 272 games in his NHL career, having a very solid record of 146-86-24, with a career GAA of 2.79 and a .910 save %.
