With the hiring of Craig Berube by the Maple Leafs the future of many stars including John Tavares has been up in the air today insider Pierre LeBrun confirmed John Tavares' future.
The Toronto Maple Leafs are expected to endure quite a lot of turnover this summer. With Brad Treliving entering his second season as GM and Craig Berube his first season as head coach they will want to put their stamp on the team.
Many fans wondered if their stamp would involve moving on from captain John Tavares. However, a new report from NHL insider Pierre LeBrun has indicated that both the Maple Leafs and John Tavares prefer to stay together next season.
There have been no conversations about a potential trade between the Leafs and John Tavares. Even if there were, Tavares has no plans of waiving his full no-move clause
With this in mind, the Toronto Maple Leafs will likely run it back with Auston Matthews and John Tavares as their one-two punch at center. If the Maple Leafs are going to make major changes then it would likely come from a Mitch Marner or William Nylander trade instead. Although this is a move that Maple Leafs GM Brad Treliving says he is still considering carefully.
When asked about Mitch Marner, Brad Treliving said the Leafs won't trade him just for the sake of it
Once the offseason begins the Toronto Maple Leafs will need to make some kind of move to keep fans engaged. If they go into yet another season with the same core group and no additions to the defense or goaltending that are substantial things could get ugly.
Brad Treliving and Craig Berube have a lot of work ahead of them in the coming months to properly build the Toronto Maple Leafs into a contender. As they make those moves we will provide all the latest updates to you.
