The Maple Leafs have several talented prospects, and for Roni Hirvonen, a scary injury had him believing he may never play hockey again.

While most look at the top two or three prospects in the Maple Leafs organization, there are a depth of talented young players ready to one day make their mark, and for 22-year old Roni Horvinen, that time could be near. It almost didn't get to this point however, as he suffered a brutal concussion at development camp a year ago in a clip that was all over hockey social media.
Things didn't get better from there for the 2022 second-round pick, as he would go on to suffer an eye injury while playing for the Toronto Marlies against the Utica Comets.
Two injuries in such a short amount of time would be tough for anyone to handle, but for a young prospect just looking to make his name, it became a scary situation, with the native of Finland recently revealing that he believed his career could be over.
"Of course there was [a doubt]. Until I tried to play on the ice again," Hirvonen said.
The process became even harder when he simply couldn't do anything but wait, which is often the toughest part of being injured for professional athletes.
"You are on the ice every day and then when you can't do it for months, it's tough. And then it was just, waiting after for the eye to heal."

The 5-foot-10 center got back on the ice for the Marlies however, tallying a solid 7 goals and 13 points in 37 games played, and with a good season in 2024/25, he could be talked about as a solid NHLer of the future.
