Ryerson Leenders is a top prospect for the Buffalo Sabres and he's just been traded to the Brantford Bulldogs in the OHL for a massive eight draft picks.
The Buffalo Sabres drafted Ryerson Leenders 219th overall in the 2024 NHL Draft. Leenders was selected very late in the draft but has great potential, and was one of the youngest players in the draft. Leenders is only 17 years old and played 46 games this season with a record of 24-17-4.
However, the Mississauga Steelheads have traded Ryerson Leenders to the Brantford Bulldogs for eight draft selections over the next three OHL draft years. Leenders' departure allows the Steelheads' 16-year-old goaltender, Jack Ivankovic, to take over the primary goaltending role. Meanwhile, Leenders gets to join the Bulldogs, a team that should improve upon its top-10 finish in the standings last season.
We are very excited to add Ryerson to our club. Ryerson solidifies our goaltending tandem alongside David Egorov & gives our club a tremendous foundation for success. We know Ryerson is a player the fans will immediately gravitate to and look forward to his contributions both on the ice and in the community.
Ryerson Leenders has a GAA of 3.12 and a save percentage of .909, which are solid numbers for the league. He hopes to improve and eventually make it to the NHL.
"We're thinking he's going to be a really good goalie," says Brantford Bulldogs general manager Matt Turek after the trade.
