It's never pleasant to have to report a tragedy, but unfortunately, Mike Meeker, a former NHL player and coach in the community, has died at the age of 66.
Being part of the NHL, even for a brief time, is something special. It's a tough blow when a former player leaves us too soon. In a tragic turn of events, the NHL Alumni Association shared on social media X that Mike Meeker, a former NHL player of the Pittsburgh Penguins, has sadly passed away at the age of 66.
Mike Meeker was the 25th overall pick in the 1978 NHL Draft, chosen by the Pittsburgh Penguins. He only played four games with them, but his career took him all over North America and even abroad, including stops in the NCAA, OHL, AHL, and Sweden.
