The Boston Bruins have been off to a red-hot start in 2023-24, and even with the suspension to their star defenseman, they've managed to just keep on winning.

Charlie McAvoy releases surprising statement to Gary Bettman

After hitting Oliver Ekman-Larson in the head during a game against the Florida Panthers, McAvoy was unsurprisingly handed down a suspension comparable to Calgary's Rasmus Andersson of four-games.
He would then go on to appeal the decision, but Gary Bettman would uphold that, and now, the superstar blue liner has released a surprising statement.
«I appreciated Mr Bettman & team taking the time. Thought we made some really good points. We brought comparables to the table. I just want to get back on the ice & play hockey» McAvoy pushed for a 1-game reduction

Another suspension upheld by the NHL in 2023

The league upheld the suspension to Andersson too, so it appears they are being somewhat consistent with shots to the head, and while McAvoy's team believed they had enough to get a one-game reduction, it just wasn't enough.
However, in an 82-game season, he'll be back on the ice with plenty of time ahead of him, and perhaps this will encourage him to stay away from the type of dangerous hit that led to the suspension in the first place.
