So let me this get this straight. First, Linus Ullmark is traded to the Ottawa Senators. Now goodbye Jeremy Swayman? What's happening in Beantown?
The Boston Bruins GM Don Sweeney and Swayman are currently at a standstill over his new contract, and it's looking like they might not be able to sign him.
Right now, they have $8.6 million in cap space, but Swayman's next deal is projected to be over $9 million. This means they don't have enough room to sign him without making some moves.
themugnhl Kevin Paul DuPont of the Boston Globe suggests that while the Boston Bruins have $8.6 million in cap space, they still may have to make a trade to free up a bit more room in order to sign goaltender Jeremy Swayman. His next contract, depending on term, is expected to come in north of $9M AAV.
The Bruins will likely need to shed some salary before the season starts to make it work. This is definitely a situation to keep an eye on.
