Tyler Ennis is a great example of an NHL player that overcame plenty of doubters to have success, and now, he has officially called it quits on his hockey career.

The NHL is full of players of all shapes and sizes that have experienced plenty of success throughout their career, and there's no better example of a player overcoming the odds than Tyler Ennis. The Edmonton native was a first-round pick of the Buffalo Sabres back in 2008, and right from the outset, he began proving people wrong in the NHL, playing with the team for eight seasons.

After that, he would go on to play in Minnesota, Toronto, Edmonton and Ottawa, and would eventually tally exactly 700 games in the league, putting up 144 goals and 346 points over that time. Now however, after spending the last two seasons overseas, he has officially announced on social media that he is calling it quits on his hockey career at the age of 34.

While he never won the Stanley Cup and was never an All-Star in the NHL, Ennis became one of the league's most respected players, tallying a career high of 49 points in his first full season with Buffalo back in 2010/11. Given the drive and determination it takes to make it in the NHL at 5-foot-9, there's no doubting that combined with his experience could make him great behind the scenes in hockey one day, so now, we sit and wait to see what Ennis will do next.
