The Chicago Blackhawks are facing off against the Arizona Coyotes in Mullet arena tonight. During the game, one Coyotes defenseman turned heads when he made a major hit on a key Blackhawks player.
Dumba Lays Huge Hit On Bedard
The defenseman involved was none other than Matt Dumba. The 29-year-old has been involved in many trade rumors this season but so far it seems like the Coyotes have no interest in moving him. That could very well change before Friday's deadline, but until then he will continue to play big minutes for the team. Tonight he showed his physical side of his game as he made this crushing hit on Connor Bedard.
Some fans were not happy with the play as they felt the hit was late. However, given the standard for interference in the NHL, this hit should be legal.
Bedard Carrying Blackhawks Offense With Powerplay Playmaking
Bedard is mostly known as a goal scorer, but he has developed his playmaking game over the past two seasons split between the WHL and NHL. He is showing this off tonight as he already has two assists, both on the powerplay halfway through the game.
Bedard leads the Blackhawks in scoring this year with 17 goals and 43 points in 49 games. He remains the favorite for the Calder trophy as rookie of the year despite missing time with injury. Given his scoring pace, it is hard to see any other rookie catching up. And this is just the beginning for Bedard as he figures to have a long and storied career with the Blackhawks.
