Severalli mentioned that he believes Toews will get that hockey "itch" come October, which is potentially a reason for the lack of any final decisions being made.
Jonathan Toews Hall of Fame Career
While his career isn't confirmed to be over, Toews has been battling CIRS for the majority of the last 2 years.
He sat out the entirety of the 2020-21 season but made a return in 2021-22, playing almost the entire season's worth of games and even getting 37 points.
Whether or not he wants to continue the strain of battling CIRS and playing in the NHL at age 35, though, will be a tough decision to make.
Toews will undoubtedly be nominated to the Hockey Hall of Fame when he does eventually retire. With over 1000 games played and over 800 points, he has carved his name into the conversation of hockey greats.
Not to mention he is a 3-time Stanley Cup winner, a Conn Smythe Trophy winner, Selke Trophy winner, and Mark Messier Leadership award winner.
