After the tragic passing of Johnny Gaudreau, the Columbus Blue Jackets found some big holes in their forward group, and even after signing James Van Riemsdyk, it appears they aren't done attempting to fill those holes.
Now, Elliotte Friedman has made a surprise prediction on 32 Thoughts, revealing that Phil Kessel could be an option for them ahead of the 2024/25 season as they look to take a major step forward after another disappointing campaign a year ago.
On paper, it may be an odd suggestion, but when Friedman opens up on the potential partnership, it makes perfect sense, as Kessel was still productive in 2022/23 with Vegas, and will bring the veteran leadership and joy into a young team looking to improve. It's unclear how much interest the team truly have, but it's a great fit for a player looking to make his own history by rejoining an NHL team, and with reported interest in returning, a team will likely take a chance on him.
For now we will wait and see whether or not a team takes a chance on the beloved three-time Stanley Cup Champion Kessel, but keep an eye on Columbus, who could be the perfect fit for the 36-year old.
