The Edmonton Oilers have struggled for much of the 2023-24 season thus far, but after building momentum, this is a team that's looking to add to their roster to make a genuine Stanley Cup run.

Could the Oilers target another star forward in Jake Guentzel?

Naturally, when people look at what needs to be improved in this lineup, the obvious answer is goaltending, as Jack Campbell struggled in net to start the year, with Stuart Skinner slowly getting back to the form he found a season ago.
With Calvin Pickard as his backup, there's a chance that the Oilers stay put in net, and instead, they could target a star forward, with TSN's Chris Johnston revealing that Pittsburgh Penguins star Jake Guentzel could be an option to add more firepower to this forward group.

What would be the price to land the veteran superstar?

While Guentzel often goes overlooked around the league as a star, he's been fantastic since joining the Penguins, as he has tallied 454 points in 488 games playing alongside Sidney Crosby.
Unfortunately for the Penguins, Johnston also revealed that the price to land Guentzel would be a first-round pick, alongside a top prospect, and with Jack Campbell's contract, it will be impossible to land him unless they can move all of that.
Ultimately, this is a move that would make sense for Edmonton if they have confidence in Skinner in net, but unless that's the case, this is a move that may turn out to be just too rich for them.
