Maddox Dagenais, the 1st overall pick in the QMJHL draft, had his draft rights traded to the Quebec Remparts after reportedly refusing to report to the Cape Breton Eagles.
Before being picked by the Remparts 1st overall, Dagenais had reportedly only wanted to play in Quebec, forcing Cape Breton to trade the pick the Quebec for 4 assets, including goaltending prospect Louca Connolly.
Dagenais tallied 42 goals and 81 points in just 35 games played for the Quinte Red Devis U16 AAA this past season, and is also this son of former 1st overall selection Pierre Dagenais, making them the first father-son duo ever selected 1st overall.

Dagenais had a preference to play for the Quebec Remparts, and would reportedly have not reported to the Cape Breton Eagles, which forced their hand, much like the Quebec Nordiques and the Eric Lindros fiasco during the 1991 NHL draft
A prospect for the 2026 NHL draft, Maddox Dagenais will look to take the same path as his father Pierre, who played 142 NHL games in his career.
Dagenais will look to make an immediate impact on the Remparts offence, as they finished at the bottom of the Eastern Conference in the QMJHL with just 21 wins.
