According to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman on Sunday, Edmonton Oilers forward Evander Kane's recovery from surgery will be extended and he can likely be expected to return in January or February 2025. The surgery, which included repairs to both his abductors, two hernias, and two abdominal tears, was performed last Friday.
The 33-year-old took to Instagram that day to post an update, sharing a photo from his hospital bed giving a thumbs up.
Kane told media on Wednesday he first noticed something was amiss back in late October and had gradually been getting worse over the months.
He scored 44 regular-season points, through 24 goals, and 20 assists in 77 games and eight postseason points, with four goals and four assists in 20 playoff games. However, he was out for the Stanley Cup Final, going without hitting the ice for five of seven games against the Florida Panthers.
Evander Kane refused to give a particular timeline regarding his recovery. Stan Bowman, Edmonton's general manager, was clear that the forward will be out "for a while."
