Evander Kane was nowhere to be found during the first day when Edmonton Oilers veteran players got together to skate. It appears he won't pass his physical.

A few veteran Oilers players are already on the ice at the Downtown Community Arena, anxious to get the new season started. Coming off last year's heart-and-soul Game 7 loss to the Panthers, the team is hungry for another deep playoff run. But one face is absent from the familiar cast of characters: Evander Kane.
Evander Kane's been fighting a sports hernia and may need surgery for the affliction. If that's so, he can go on LTIR to start the season. Jim Matheson from the Edmonton Journal speculates as far as to say Kane may fail his physical right out of the gate in training camp. The team would likely want to place him on LTIR if that's the case so that they can wipe his salary off the books and use the cap space for other needs.
The injury made the 33-year-old Evander Kane not that much of a factor during the Oilers playoff push last season. On some nights, he couldn't even sit on the bench because of pain. He's got two more years left on his deal with a $5.125M cap hit. The Oilers kick off their pre-season against the Winnipeg Jets on September 22nd.
