It's been coming for quite some time now, and a year before he hits unrestricted free agency, it appears as though Leon Draisaitl is set to sign a long-term extension with the Edmonton Oilers. According to Tyler Yaremchuk of OilersNation, it's not happening in the next few days, but that's a good sign for the relationship between Draisaitl and the Oilers organization.
"Yeah, maybe they would be under some pressure to, kay, on the heels of getting that close to a Stanley Cup. Just get it done as fast as you can. But I think these two sides probably know they're going to find common ground at some point," Yaremchuk continued.
"And it'll be, you know, not easy to do, but you can kind of see the path towards how they're going to get a deal done. So, yeah, I have no problem with them waiting. I mean, announce it on August 31st. Wait till September, when he's back in town for camp."

This is a good sign for the Oilers as they look to take it one step further than they did in 2024, with Yaremchuk all but predicting he will sign his deal once he returns to Edmonton ahead of a crucial training camp.
"Like to me, this is going to get done before the beginning of the season, and there's really no reason to rush and no reason for fans to be concerned that this thing isn't done yet," Yaremchuk added.
After another stellar campaign, bringing Draisaitl back will be key for the Edmonton Oilers as they potentially look to extend Connor McDavid next summer, and if it gets done, the confidence heading into the 2024/25 campaign will be sky high.
