This crazy play during the Wild versus Ducks game resulted in Marc-Andre Fleury being wrongly penalized, and it raised questions online about what he was to do to avoid trouble.
Fleury Penalized For High Stick On Vatrano After He Ran into His Stick
It's not every day that you see a goaltender take a penalty, and this one was definitely a unique play. During the play, Fleury was squarely between his posts as the Wild were looking to break the puck out of their zone. However, Frank Vatrano decided to forecheck a little too closely to Fleury and ended up skating right into his butt end.
This was clearly Vatrano's fault, however, the official seemed to think it was on Fleury, giving him a penalty on the play.
"Not sure how Fleury is supposed to avoid Frank Vatrano skating face-first into his stick?" SpokedZ on X said.
The official had to be mistaken from the play, thinking that Fleury was trying to run some interference. This incidental contact at the least, since Fleury wasn't even looking when it happened.
Fleury Records Shutout During Game and Continues Hot Play for Wild
Despite the penalty, Fleury was able to continue his hot streak against the Ducks, recording a shutout. He has been red-hot as of late, in an attempt to keep the Wild competitive down the stretch, with their playoff hopes slowly slipping away.
Wild goalie Marc-Andre Fleury 🌸with his 560th win, his 75th career shutout and has now won 5 of his last 6 starts.
