Despite promising performances in Russia and in the AHL, the Minnesota Wild are set to release talented prospect Vladislav Firstov.

Back in 2019, the Minnesota Wild drafted Vladislav Firstov at No. 42 overall, with the Russian born winger showing plenty of potential at the University of Connecticut. Firstov showed little promise in his first stint with the AHL's Iowa Wild, before heading back to the KHL where he put up an impressive 61 points in 114 games despite now being just 22-years of age.
However, a report has now emerged signalling that the team are parting ways with Firstov;
The #Wild 🇺🇸 have placed forward Vladislav Firstov (@vladislav_firstov) 🇷🇺 on unconditional waivers for the purpose of a mutual contract termination.

Firstov, 22, had 17 goals, 35 points through 67 games played with Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod (KHL) 🇷🇺 this season. He also had two goals, four points through 10 games played with the Iowa Wild (AHL) 🇺🇸

He was drafted 42nd overall by Minnesota in 2019.

It's unclear at this point what the reasoning behind it is, as he tallied four points in 10 games with the Iowa Wild this past season, but for now, it looks like they are done with the talented Russian winger.
