Martin St. Louis gave some strong honesty of the status of one of Habs fans favorite players.
MSL Speaks On The Status Of Young Defenseman
Montreal Canadiens Head Coach Martin St. Louis spoke on the current status of Forward Arber Xhekaj after he was held to just 12:29 minutes of ice time against the Washington Capitals.
St. Louis said Xhekaj being given a minutes reduction is not a personal matter, but says the 23-year-old needs more time to handle the toughness of the NHL grind, saying he still needs time in Montreal to settle, but that Xhekaj needs to show he can handle himself at the highest level.
"You know, I always say this... Make mistakes, and stop making the same one... You have to learn from your mistakes a bit, you know... So no, he had a good time in Laval, I saw him play in Laval and I think he needs more reps at this stage, to really get used to the NHL game which is faster."
Xhekaj, a Habs fan favorite, has a goal and 4 points in 20 games this season for the Canadiens, with 3 goals and 11 points in 17 games in AHL Laval. Xhekaj leads Montreal in penalty minutes with 53. Xhekaj had a productive game in Montreal's most recent game against Washington, 3rd Overall for Habs players from HockeyStatCards tracked data.
The Canadiens currently sit 6th in the Atlantic Division with 50 points and a 21-21-8 record in 50 games played, 13th in the Eastern Conference standings.
