The New York Rangers have been one of the NHL's best teams in 2023-24, and with the trade deadline approaching, they've made a very surprising call.
According to TSN's Darren Dreger, as the Rangers look to take the next step in a loaded Eastern Conference, they may do so by moving one of their home grown young talents.
That talent would be Kaapo Kakko, who the Rangers acquired with the No. 2 overall selection in the 2019 NHL Draft, and at 22-years of age, moving him comes with plenty of risk.
It may be tough for Kakko, who has taken a major step forward in the last two years to be moved while being just 22-years of age, but given the Rangers goals, it makes sense to target more experienced names for their playoff run.
With 18 goals and 40 points a season ago, Kakko could be a breakout star for any team looking to get younger and give up veteran pieces, with the likes of Arizona, Buffalo and Calgary some teams that come to mind as the Rangers look to push for a Stanley Cup.
