Bobby Ryan, a former NHL player who spent parts of seven seasons with the Ottawa Senators, has recently expressed his displeasure with a reporter covering the team. Bruce Garrioch, a journalist for the Ottawa Sun, shared his thoughts on Twitter about the Senators' upcoming participation in the NHL's Global Series, which involves games in Europe against the Toronto Maple Leafs, Detroit Red Wings, and Minnesota Wild in November. Garrioch recalled the Senators' last overseas trip to play hockey in 2017, which he believed had a negative impact on the team's entire season.

Garrioch suggested that the team's poor performance upon returning from Sweden was due to Guy Boucher's belief that the players were exhausted, leading to a lack of practice and a decline in performance. Garrioch's comments referred to the Senators' poor season after making the conference finals the previous year, which resulted in the team missing the playoffs and beginning a new rebuilding process. Boucher was fired the following year. However, Bobby Ryan, who played with the Senators that year, disputed Garrioch's claims, stating that they were not accurate.

In response to Garrioch's tweet, Ryan exclaimed, "WTF are you talking about, Bruce?" Garrioch replied, urging Ryan not to behave like his co-hosts on a podcast that Ryan participates in. Ryan then fired back, stating, "Not sure which one you're talking about as I tell them both daily they are knobs but don't say something that asinine when I can name about 5 things that mattered more during that season."
While Boucher's "rest is a weapon" philosophy may have contributed to the team's poor performance, there were other significant issues that plagued the team that season. The growing locker-room split, which involved Erik Karlsson, Mike Hoffman, and their spouses, was among the primary concerns. Eventually, Melinda Karlsson obtained a protective order against Hoffman's long-time partner.
