After months of speculation, the Boston Bruins finally broke up their star goaltender pairing, shockingly trading former Vezina Trophy winner Linus Ullmark to the Ottawa Senators in a surprise deal.
The deal makes sense for Ottawa if they are intending on making a Stanley Cup Playoff run, but for years now they've had that mindset before falling short, and if that happens early in the 2024/25 season, it may be the end of Ullmark ahead of free agency.
That comes from insider Frankie Corrado, and given his comments, there's huge potential that if the team aren't pushing for a playoff spot before the deadline, they may look to trade the veteran star. If not, there's a high likelihood that he departs in free agency in a weak goaltending class, so unless something happens before the season, there's a good chance he could leave after a short stint in Ottawa.
