John Tortorella isn't afraid of hurting anyone's feelings in hockey being an old-school coach. Now, he might be considering benching the captain of his team.
Tortorella To Consider Benching Couturier After Slow Play
The Philadelphia Flyers are in an interesting position this year, as they are falling down the standings at the worst time of the year. In order to nip the slide in the bud, John Tortorella is reportedly considering a massive message, benching Captain Sean Couturier.
"Rumours that Sean Couturier might be a healthy scratch tomorrow night against the Toronto Maple Leafs. #LetsGoFlyers"
In order to ensure the Flyers remain invested down the stretch, it looks like Torts is taking things into his own hands to send a strong message to the team.
Couturier Likely Hasn't Been Scratched in Years But Things Could Change
It's definitely not every day that an NHL captain gets healthy scratched by a coach looking to send a message. But if anyone was going to do it, it would be John Tortorella. Torts is well known for not picking favourites on his teams, and if he thinks you aren't performing, he will let you know about it.
"i didn't even know captains could be scratched but it was bound to happen. if he wasn't captain it would have happened already."
We will see what Torts decides to do as the Flyers look to maintain their success down the stretch this year.
