When the Pittsburgh Penguins drafted Sidney Crosby 1st overall back in the 2005 NHL draft we all knew he was going to be special. But Crosby didn't just meet he exceeded all expectations leading the Penguins to 3 Stanley Cups.

Unfortunately for Crosby he's also had his share of injures especially when it comes to concussions. This caused a former teammate of Crosby to suggest getting the Captaincy taken away from Crosby but Assistant Captain Evgeni Malkin stood up for Crosby and that never happened.

Teammates Didn't Support Crosby as Captain

According to Josh Yohe from The Athletic , teammates Jordan Staal, Brooks Orpik, Craig Adams and Matt Cooke were among the teammates that wanted a new captain.

"'Those four were exploring the possibility of naming someone else team captain until Crosby came back. On the other side of the debate were Marc-Andre Fleury, Malkin, Pascal Dupuis and Arron Asham. A rather heated discussion broke out. At the end, Malkin made his point clear: «Guys. Sid is the f****** captain.» Then he left the room. And the conversation was over.'"

In hindsight it definitely was the right choice not to strip Crosby of the Captaincy, at 35 years-old Crosby is still going with 31 goals, and 88 points in 78 games this season. Crosby has also racked up a hall of fame career with 548 goals, and 949 assists in 1186 games.
