The Leafs struggled last night against the Buffalo Sabres, getting destroyed from the minute the puck dropped, and Auston Matthews had some harsh words about it.
Matthews Says Team Was Embarrassing During Blowout Loss to Sabres
The Leafs couldn't quite get anything going last night, despite matching the Sabres' first 2 goals against. Their efforts dwindled as the game continued on, and the Sabres didn't look back, handing it to the Leafs 9-3.
After the game, Auston Matthews had some choice words for his evaluation of how the team played during the game.
"Embarrassing is probably the right word to use from start to finish, top to bottom, not nearly good enough. Just a bad hockey game from our team. Collectively, it is probably one of the worst games since I have been here. It's hard to pinpoint one thing. I think it was all just disappointing."
Leafs Lose Despite Matthews' Best Efforts
Auston Matthews is easily the Leafs' best goal scorer and player, and he often can will the team to victory in his own right. However, this wasn't the case against the Sabres, as it looked like Matthews was doing everything in his power to right the ship in the beginning of the game.
The Leafs will look to get back on track tomorrow night against the Blue Jackets.
