The Toronto Maple Leafs have been thin on defense all season. As a result, the team has resorted to relying on depth defenseman Conor Timmins on occasion this year. Last night, the blueliner earned himself a hefty fine from the league on a dirty play on Seattle's Brandon Tanev.

Timmins Fined Maximum Amount For Cross Check On Tanev

The Department of Player Safety announced today that Timmins had been given the maximum fine allowable under the CBA for a cross check on Kraken forward Brandon Tanev last night.
Toronto's Conor Timmins has been fined $2,864.58, the maximum allowable under the CBA, for cross-checking Seattle's Brandon Tanev.
The play resulted in dramatic on-ice chaos between the Kraken and Leafs last night as Tanev took exception to the dangerous play. Additionally, Timmins received a minor penalty on the play, ultimately putting the Leafs down a man following the scrum as multiple players went to the penalty boxes.
That's a dangerous cross-check by Conor Timmins.

Brandon Tanev was right to be furious.
The Leafs were able to hold on and win the game 3-1 though, which was huge for the team considering their recent struggles. Timmins may find himself back in the press box though as his performance was less than stellar.
