The Toronto Maple Leafs have added to their defensive depth today. Many have been asking the Leafs to round out their defensive group and today it seems as though that is happening with the signing of a young experienced defenseman.
Benoit Comes To Toronto
According to multiple reports, the Toronto Maple Leafs have signed defenseman Simon Benoit to a one-year contract worth $775,000.
The 24-year-old defenseman has already suited up for 137 total NHL games. This brings a player with good experience and also upside to the Toronto Maple Leafs defense. He also brings a physical element that has been lacking on the Leafs' defense for the past few years.
For now, Benoit likely fits in as a depth defenseman on the NHL roster. With a string of a few good games, he could find himself in the lineup every night and a key budget pickup for the Leafs.
