The New York Islanders have been a fascinating team to watch in the NHL in recent few years. With an astonishing nine players inked to long-term contracts, their achievements on the ice haven't always matched the expectations.

Despite reaching the conference finals twice consecutively, the Islanders have found themselves in a less than ideal spot recently. GM Lou Lamoriello appears all-in, tying down players like Pierre Engvall and Scott Mayfield to extended contracts. But the vibe from head coach Lane Lambert might be a different story.

Lambert in a Hot Seat?

Things took an intriguing twist when, after a playoff defeat at the hands of the Carolina Hurricanes, Lambert chose to maintain radio silence with the press. Four months have passed since their playoff exit, and still, there's not a whisper from the man leading the team.
Is it fair to point fingers at Lambert for the team's underperformance? The folks over at Eyes on Islanders didn't mince words when they stated:
"Lambert, deserving or not, will be the one the team moves on from if a move is deemed necessary, as he needs to get his team off to a hot start."

Filling for Barry Trotz

Filling the shoes of the iconic Barry Trotz was never going to be a cakewalk. However, if Lambert doesn't steer the ship right, he might have to look for a new gig sooner than he'd like.
The Islanders remain a box of surprises, and predicting their next move? Well, that's anyone's guess!
