The Toronto Maple Leafs sit in third place in the Atlantic Division as the new year approaches, and now, they've got some great news ahead of a key battle against the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Two Key pieces for Toronto return to the lineup
After missing several weeks with a hand injury, veteran defenseman Mark Giordano returns to the lineup after last seeing action on the 28th of November. Giordano's return is a much needed boost to the Maple Leafs defensive unit who have been decimated with injury, and while he has just 5 points in 20 games this season, his presence, physicality and leadership are desperately needed.
Alongside him will be the return of Ilya Samsonov to net, who will look to turn around a string of recent bad form as he's in net against one of the weakest offensive teams in the league in the Blue Jackets. On the season, Samsonov has a 3.79 GAA and an .871 save percentage, and with Joseph Woll looking to take the starting role, this is a key game for the young goaltender.
