Borje Salming, a beloved former NHL player who played 16 seasons for the Leafs and one for Detroit, was inducted into the NHL Hockey Hall of Fame in 1996. He holds the distinction of being the first European player to play 1000 NHL games, and was cherished by Leafs fans and hockey enthusiasts across the league.
Unfortunately, Salming passed away in 2022 at the age of 71 due to ALS, a devastating disease that left him unable to eat or speak. The NHL has paid tribute to his legacy by bestowing numerous awards upon him and making a generous donation to the Borje Salming ALS foundation, which was established in his honour.
