Sheldon Keefe shockingly threw a little bit of a dig at his core four after yesterday's loss to the Colorado Avalanche, whether he meant to or not.
Keefe Praises Avalanche Top Guys Throwing Shade At His Core
The Colorado Avalanche are a special team, no doubt. They have some of the best players in the League in Nathan MacKinnon, Cale Makar, Mikko Rantanen, and Valeri Nichushkin. Their talent is so great that even Sheldon Keefe has high praise for their group. After the game he had the following to say.
"When MacKinnon's line gets out there with Makar and Toews ... that's not the NHL. That's another league."
This had some fans troubled, as Keefe is essentially saying that this group is on another playing field than his own. When considering how much the core is making compared to Colorado's group, things get a little depressing.
What's bad for Keefe here is he's saying that they have 4 guys making $47M next year.. and apparently they aren't even in the same league as MacKinnon and Co.
Keefe Calls Out Nylander in Post Game Presser
The Leafs' big guns definitely didn't have their best game last night, that is for sure. Keefe could have been feeling some of that and letting them know through the press conference. It was especially noted as Keefe called out William Nylander's line directly in the post-game interviews.
The Leafs will have an opportunity to right their wrongs quickly as they take on the Detroit Red Wings tonight in the second part of the back-to-back this weekend.
