The Toronto Maple Leafs are ready to make some big changes this summer, and with needs on the blue line, a top target has been identified as Brady Skjei.
While the Maple Leafs forward group is full of stars, they've got plenty of holes on the remainder of the roster, and with Joseph Woll emerging as their No. 1, it's time to turn their attention to the blue line. Beyond Morgan Rielly, there's just very little puck moving talent for the Maple Leafs, with analysts targeting Brady Skjei as their top free agent target.
Brady Skjei has to be FA target #1
Big shot from the point, big frame, good defensively, has generally avoided injury throughout his career.
He and McCabe would be one of the better all-around pairs in the league.
I'd give him up to 6 years at the Rielly AAV or even a bit more
While he will no doubt be a massive addition to the team if they can land him, this can't be Toronto's only move, as they need depth and star power to compete with the top teams in the Eastern Conference. In 80 games this past season, Skjei tallied 13 goals and 47 assists, and with the impending departure of TJ Brodie and other names on the roster being used for depth, he's a player they need to land.
Beyond Skjei, there are certainly other options in both free agency and on the trade market (Chris Tanev, Rasmus Andersson, Nikita Zadorov, Alec Martinez and others), but if they can land Skjei, it may change the outlook of their 2024-25 season.
