Elliotte Friedman Reveals Shocking Details Regarding Leafs Ownership
On Elliotte Friedman's latest 32 Thoughts podcast, he revealed some shocking details about the Toronto Maple Leafs ownership, management and the core four, specifically Mitch Marner.
Friedman mentions right from the beginning that he's not convinced that the Maple Leafs ownership group wants the layers of management traditional to other teams. This is most important to recognize that he's talking about the President of Hockey Operations.
The layer of management part is interesting, before Kyle Dubas was fired, he wanted more autonomy, but the former CEO sided with Brendan Shanahan. A year later, they changed their mind.

If the Maple Leafs organization goes forward with not having a President of Hockey Operations anymore, Brad Treliving, if he remains as the general manager, would report to the CEO of the team.
Later in the episode, Friedman goes on to talk about the Leafs' days of having $40 million plus invested into their core four players are done. Although, Friedman mentions that they may have to wait if they can't get the player to waive his no-movement clause.
Friedman goes on to talk about Mitch Marner. He mentions that every core four player except Marner had a big moment in the series.
He says that contract-wise, it's a big deal and he sees the team having a conversation regarding Marner's future.
Diving deeper into the episode, Sheldon Keefe, the current head coach of the Leafs and his future is questioned. Friedman mentions Craig Berube, and Berube has historically mentioned that being the head coach of the Leafs is his dream job.
Nothing was available last summer, so they signed Keefe to a multi-year extension, but things are significantly different this summer with many great coaches looking for a new job.
