The New York Rangers beat the Carolina Hurricanes in game 1 of the second round matchup. During the first period, they scored twice on the powerplay, outproducing the Leafs in their entire seven-game series against the Bruins.

The first period between the Rangers and Hurricanes was rather wild as the teams exchanged chances. Both teams scored on their first shot of the game and by the end of the frame, the Rangers had a 3-1 lead. That was largely thanks to their powerplay, which scored twice on two opportunities.

Making matters worse for Leafs fans is the fact that the Rangers required just 23 seconds total to pot their two powerplay markers. By contrast, the Leafs had 21 powerplay opportunities in their series against the Bruins and found the net just one time in seven games.
Just to kick #LeafsForever fans while they're down, #NYR have more PP goals in 23 seconds than they did in their entire 7-game series.

Don't yell at me @Vpolatian
Fans have lamented the team's special teams, citing them as the reason they lost the series. Given how close it was, even one more powerplay goal could have potentially been the difference.
Leafs having a sub-5% powerplay is something that should be studied by anthropologists. Honestly, if one wanted to install a coach to purposely sewer a team's powerplay, you'd never find a mole who could outdo Keefe this series.
Now there is plenty of speculation about Sheldon Keefe loosing his job in the offseason. Given how his team performed on the man advantage, it may very well be time for him to go.
