Sheldon Keefe has seemingly been on the hot seat in Toronto for years, and now a former Maple Leaf reveals just how close he is to being fired.
Sheldon Keefe has been the Head Coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs for several years now, and after winning just one playoff series in his time with this star studded roster, he remains on thin ice. Now, former Maple Leaf Jay Rosehill has discussed the possibility of Keefe's firing this summer, revealing that unless he makes the Conference Finals, the team will likely go in another direction.
"Yeah, I mean, I do think so. You've got to change something up. It looks like they're locking these guys up, "running it back" with these players, so you can't go in with Keefe again and do the exact same thing again for the 3rd year, 4th year, however far you want to go back. So, yeah, I do think Keefe will be gone if they don't have playoff success this year." - Rosehill on Keefe
While the Eastern Conference is loaded with talented teams like Boston, New York, Florida and Tampa Bay, the Maple Leafs are set up to win now, and if the team don't do that, it's tough to see their fans accepting Keefe back in the role next season.
With the quartet of Matthews, Marner, Nylander and Tavares all locked in for the 2024-25 campaign, the team need to focus on winning now, and if Keefe can't get the job done, there's someone out there that could.
