This summer there has been speculation that the Toronto Maple Leafs want to trade Mitch Marner and now a report confirms they are trying to force him out of town.
The Toronto Maple Leafs had a disappointing end to their season losing in the first round to the Boston Bruins. Ever since the loss Mitch Marner's future in Toronto has been put in doubt. Today a report from Frank Seravalli has indicated the team will do everything they can to force a Mitch Marner trade.
Frank Seravalli on the DFO pod on Marner:
"I think the Leafs are going to make a play and they're going to basically back him into a corner over the next three weeks that says Mitch it's been great but we're moving on, so whether it's now or eight months from now your times up"
Despite the Toronto Maple Leafs wanting to force him out they do not have all that much control. Mitch Marner has a no-trade clause and could block any trades that come his way.
With the offseason just beginning there is plenty of time for this all to change. As of now though the Toronto Maple Leafs and Brad Treliving are stuck with Mitch Marner. Eventually they might have to face the reality they might lose him for nothing. If the Toronto Maple Leafs lose him in free agency next summer and do not win a Stanley Cup expect the backlash to reach an all-time high.
