Max Domi, set to enter free agency on July 1st, shared an update on his contract negotiations with the Toronto Maple Leafs in a recent interview.

Domi had a great season in Toronto, and if the Leafs don't sign him, many other teams should show interest. As we get closer to the draft and free agency, uncertainty about his future in Toronto will grow until a deal is announced.
However, something else could relieve worried fans. Domi mentioned that his agent had discussions with the Maple Leafs about a new contract:
"I know my agent has been talking to (Treliving), though I have to keep that discussion in-house. Whatever happens will happen, but I've still enjoyed every second as a Leaf. I'd love to come back, it's a special organization, a special group of guys."
Leafs fans loved watching Domi this season, and the player loved being in Toronto. Unfortunately, it's not that simple when it comes the time to negotiate a contract.
Treliving revealed a few days ago that he has to find a deal that works for everyone as he tries to maneuver under the salary cap:
"It's got to work for them and it's got to work for us. We've got, certainly, some issues that we have to address on the roster. There's a pie, and there's only so much to go around. We've got a few guys who are up. And part of this is getting better, too. It's not just being the same. You're trying to get better in the process, as well. So we'll see."
While signing depth players like Domi could be a great move, Treliving has other holes to fill in his lineup. Bolstering the blue line or getting a goalie to replace Ilya Samsonov could be higher on Treliving's to-do list.
