The Toronto Maple Leafs moved on from Kyle Dubas last off-season, and now he's addressed what was his biggest mistake in Toronto.

After a busy off-season in Toronto, Maple Leafs fans are looking forward to a potentially deep playoff run in 2024/25, but for one former Maple Leafs GM, it's time to reflect on the past. In a recent interview, Dubas looked back on his time in the most difficult market in the NHL, sharing what he believes was his biggest mistake during his tenure.
The biggest mistake I think I've made in my whole time here has been not taking care of the three incumbent contracts. Nylander was up, Marner and Matthews could have been done as July 1 extensions.
15 months on, both Dubas and the Maple Leafs have moved on, with former Flames GM Brad Treliving taking over and making big changes in Toronto, but looking back on his time in Toronto, it's easy to see why Dubas believes those contracts were a failure. Now, both Auston Matthews and William Nylander have inked major contracts, while Mitch Marner's looming free agency has been a huge talking point for the team this summer.
Unfortunately, even if he had good intentions, it's safe to say that most see Dubas' tenure in Toronto as a failure as the team made it past the first round just one time, but for now, it's good to see him reflecting on past mistakes to not make them moving forward with Pittsburgh.
