Leafs nation furious after troubling video about Craig Berube surfaces
There's some buzz swirling around the Toronto Maple Leafs' latest coaching pick, Craig Berube, and it has fans seeing red.
Within days of the announcement, disturbing information about Berube's past has started making the rounds.
Now, let's rewind to Berube's playing days in the NHL. He was known for being a tough, gritty player who didn't shy away from mucking this up on the ice. Unfortunately, he crossed a line back in '97 when he used a racial slur against an opponent during a game.
Berube got suspended for a game without pay for calling Florida Panthers Peter Worrell, who's black, a "monkey" during a game.

What Berube did back then is unacceptable. But he owned up to it, apologized, and served his time. It doesn't take away from his coaching abilities, the 2019 Stanley Cup ring he has from his time with the St Louis Blues or his potential to lead the Leafs to a title of their own.
However, something like that were to happen again, there will be significant consequences. Just look at what's going down with the Edmonton Oilers' assistant coach and NHL legend Paul Coffey. He's currently under investigation for allegedly making a racist gesture during Game 1 of their second round playoff series against the Vancouver Canucks, and fans are not holding back in calling for accountability.
Aside from on-ice results, the spotlight will be shining bright on Berube off the sheet too, and how he handles himself in front of the media vultures of Toronto moving forward will be crucial.
