Despite one of the NHL's most talented rosters, the Toronto Maple Leafs have made it out of the first-round just once in the era of the 'Core Four', and after another failure in 2024, the team quickly moved on from Sheldon Keefe. In his place comes Craig Berube, who has swiftly made some big changes, with
Auston Matthews being named captain with the addition of some very solid veterans that gives this lineup more depth and fire power.
Now, the Head Coach has spoken out, revealing in an interview what he wants this team to be and play like in 2024/25, and it won't come as a shock to anyone that has seen him coach in the NHL before.
The old school coach is clearly putting an emphasis on their physicality, making opponents not only fear the offensive firepower of Matthews, Marner, Nylander and co., but also bringing back the discipline and structure that will make them true Stanley Cup contenders. The Maple Leafs have always had the roster to compete, but throughout the season, one or two weaknesses have always become too much to overcome, but now with a Stanley Cup winning Head Coach, more depth on the blue line and a motivated forward group, ending the almost 60 year drought now appears closer than ever for Toronto.
