This past offseason the Leafs made a major change firing general manager Kyle Dubas. Despite firing him they decided to keep head coach Sheldon Keefe around. Today Sheldon Keefe took a shot at his former co-worker.
After a disappointing season and organizational disagreements, general manager Kyle Dubas decided to part ways with the Toronto Maple Leafs. He would shortly after sign with the Pittsburgh Penguins. Since his departure things have looked quite different with how the Toronto Maple Leafs are building their team.
Head coach Sheldon Keefe spoke today about recent moves made by new general manager Brad Treliving. The Maple Leafs bench boss complimented Brad Treliving while throwing shade at Kyle Dubas.
I don't know how many players I have coached in my time here, but I have coached a lot of players, and a lot of guys have come and gone. Some continuity and having guys you are bringing along who are growing with the team is really important. In McMann and Benoit's cases, we think they are guys who can continue to grow with the group.
Sheldon Keefe seems to appreciate moves made by Brad Treliving to bring back several key players and stop the revolving door that has been the Maple Leafs' depth for several seasons now.

In recent weeks the Toronto Maple Leafs announced multiple extensions for key role players.
Bobby McMann, signed to a 2x$1.35M extension by TOR, is a utility winger who's created scoring chances and goals at an efficient rate this season. #LeafsForever
Brad Treliving also made a re-signing to the defensive unit as well bringing back Simon Benoit on a multi year deal. Simon Benoit gets a three year extension at a low cap hit.
Simon Benoît has re-signed with the Toronto Maple Leafs to a three-year extension with an AAV of $1.35M. That's a fair deal for both sides. Benoît has been excellent defensively this year & he is not playing in sheltered minutes. He's a good 3rd pairing defensive defenseman.
While he has not hit his stride yet necessarily the potential for the 24-year-old to figure things out is there. Whether these are the right signings to be made is yet to be seen. What is guaranteed is that the Maple Leafs lineup will see less constant turnover in the next several seasons.
