This afternoon a new exciting mock trade sees the Toronto Maple Leafs take a major step in adding depth be reuniting with forward Nazem Kadri.

This summer the Toronto Maple Leafs took a major step towards changing the style played by the team by hiring new head coach Craig Berube. Since then many of the personnel additions made by GM Brad Treliving have been on the defensive side. As a result, many fans are still hoping for a major splash to add a forward. In a new mock trade, fans get their wish as the Maple Leafs add Nazem Kadri back to the squad.

Nazem Kadri returns to Toronto in a blockbuster mock trade

Today a mock trade proposed in an article by sports outlet Heavy has created a potential scenario for Nazem Kadri to return to Toronto. In the trade the Toronto Maple Leafs would receive Nazem Kadri and a pair of draft picks with David Kampf, Nick Robertson, Ryan Reaves, and a 2025 2nd round pick going back to Calgary.
Maple Leafs get:

Nazem Kadri (with $3.5 million retained)
2025 fifth-round pick
2026 sixth-round pick
Flames get:

David Kampf
Nick Robertson
Ryan Reaves
2025 second-round pick

This solves the major middle-six-center problem that the Toronto Maple Leafs currently possess. It allows either Nazem Kadri or John Tavares to be a high end third line center with the other slotting in on the second line. This would drastically improve the depth of the Maple Leafs skill players.
In exchange the Flames would get David Kampf who would be losing his third-line center role anyway, Nick Robertson a prospect who has requested a trade and failed to stand out, and of course Ryan Reaves who is only used as muscle to protect the team stars.
With the Maple Leafs adding physicality on defense the need for a player like Ryan Reaves is less than in the past. The other two players would likely be on the outside looking in on the Maple Leafs roster with this move anyway.
It also allows the Calgary Flames to begin their rebuild adding a young player with promise in Nick Robertson and a high draft pick. David Kampf could also slot in their lineup during their rebuild years and be a good veteran presence.
This of course would need to be approved by Nazem Kadri who has a no-trade clause. In recent weeks reports revealed he would be open to a return to the Colorado Avalanche.
«My understanding with respect to (Kadri) is that he's willing to waive (the no-move clause) for the right situation. I think he would welcome a return to Colorado,» Pagnotta said.

The Toronto Maple Leafs and Nazem Kadri parted on good terms this likely leaves the door open for the two to reunite and for him to be willing to waive his no trade clause.
If this trade is going to go down it likely needs to happen sooner rather than later with the season right around the corner. If more updates are given on the situation we will pass them along to you.
